Photo Corner: Snowy Waterford 2025

Waterford is located in the south of the island and doesn’t snow here in winter. Except for 2010, 2018 and this January…

When the weather forecast called for freezing weather for the first week of the year, I was hoping it would turn into snow again. This was first seen in the west and north of the island, and it arrived unplanned (the forecast never actually predicted snow for Waterford) on the afternoon of Sunday, January 5th.

It was originally supposed to snow with rain, but when I looked out the window around 3pm, it was just snowing. At first I thought the snow wouldn’t stick to the ground, but within half an hour it was holding up nicely and I decided to test my camera.

I didn’t have time to run into town, so here are a few photos from the part of town where I live. Unfortunately, the snow had melted by morning.

I didn’t experience snow here in 2010 because I was still living in the Czech Republic, but I did in 2018 and it almost kept us from leaving Dublin after the Imagine Dragons concert (that’s a story for another time). I’m also attaching some photos from downtown Waterford – all taken in early 2018:
