For the first time in Telč, Czechia
Last summer I flew to the Czech Republic to visit family and friends, and we also went to Telč for a day. It was my first time there, so I’m happy to share my experiences and photos.
I can hear my mom saying, “Not for the first time? You were there when you were 4.” Yes, mom. I remember every detail… We went to Telč from Brno, by car, with my friend M. and her daughter (my age) J. When my mom confirmed that we were going on a day trip to Telč, I immediately googled what it looked like and what there was to see. I have to say that we managed to see everything except the inside of the castle, which I didn’t regret at all.
As for the history of the city, I don’t know much about it but all I can say is – the infamous town square is part of UNESCO and the architecture is a mix of Gothic and Renaissance styles. This is what I’m talking about when I say that the continental architecture has more to offer compared to Ireland.
When we arrived, it was cloudy and it looked like it might rain. We parked a little bit from the center and walked around Telčský potok/Ulický rybník across the footbridge directly to the square. I don’t even need to say that that’s exactly how I wanted to go lol We chose Restaurant U Černého orla for lunch, if I remember correctly. The food was good, nothing special, but the service… The manager sounded like he was Czech and not Moravian – all hey here hey there. And he had to comment on everything. It was the only bad experience during our stay in the Czech Republic. Now I see that they have 2 stars on Google, so I’m glad it wasn’t just in our heads.
During lunch it started to get a bit chilly, so when we went to the Castle Park, it was perfect. Blue sky, clouds, sunshine, greenery and the castle. Except that I don’t know what I was doing and a lot of the photos are simply not focused correctly… A reason to come back.
After the park I went to the top of the local church to enjoy the views of Telč and the surrounding area and look how amazing it looks there.
Then we had a walk around Štěpnický Pond and the iconic square. I have to say that I really liked Telč and I completely understand the hype about the architecture. And I’ll say it again, but I simply miss the Czech historical architecture. So I really enjoyed it that day (except for the fact that I set up my camera incorrectly… but luckily a few photos came out fine). Definitely add Telč to your travel list if you’ve never been there!
