Live: Reneé Rapp in Dublin

Pop sensation Reneé Rapp brought her tour to Dublin in March and I was lucky enough to go. Here are my experiences and photos!

I came across Reneé a few years ago in a series. But most of the population will know her as Regina George in the remake of Mean Girls. Either way, Reneé is not only an actress but also a singer. About two years ago, she released her first EP, Everything to Everyone, and less than a year later, her debut album, Snow Angel. And it was with that album she embarked on the Snow Hard Feelings tour of America and Europe.

The Dublin show took place on March 4th at my favorite 3Olympia Theatre. This concert closed the entire tour and was sold out. I went with my friends and it was not easy to get tickets at all, luckily luck smiled on my friend in the form of an email from Spotify (sometimes they send offers for advance ticket sales). The venue is very nice, very theatrical and I finally have some decent photos and can show you a little bit.

We had tickets to sit in the middle section. Which was fine during the first song, then not so fine because everyone in the entire venue decided to stand the whole time. Of course, they have the right to do so (but why not buy a standing ticket then?), however, the lady in front of me had her ponytail up, so I mostly saw that… A friend’s partner has a disability and cannot stand for 1+ hours at a time. And the disabled section in Olympia is within the standing area. And they said we couldn’t be together, so they decided to buy tickets normally for sitting… I have to say that this year it’s not the first time that it happened to me that people were so selfish and just stood the whole time during the concert, what if someone else in that the building, who bought a ticket, wanted to see something. So much for the venue.

What was Reneé like?

Just quickly, Reneé had two support acts – Towa Bird and Alexander 23. I personally liked Towa better. She also returned during Reneé’s main set and accompanied the singer on guitar.

Reneé was great on her own. I kind of expected her to talk more during the set, but when she did, it was worth it and entertained the whole audience (for example, when she made fun of all the Americans who always say that they have Irish roots as if they wanted a medal or something). Then she also talked about the songs and made fun of someone in the audience because they said something homophobic. However, Reneé presented herself as she does in online interviews – she was just being herself and said things as they were.

As for the vocals – unmatched. Reneé left everything on stage from her vocals to her energy. She belongs among artists who sound much better live than in the studio. I will definitely want to go to Reneé again if there is a chance!
